Our Story

It was a September night in 2011, and hundreds of Friars gathered in the basement at Brother Jimmy’s on 31st and Lex in NYC. It was the Friar Fall Kickoff, to be exact. Lizzie’s best friend, Mollie Quinn, recognized Mike as they walked down the stairs that night and gave him a shout out. Off went Mollie to the bar while Lizzie and Mike began talking about Lizzie’s brand new job and why Mike’s boss was called a Comptroller. Hours later the conversation was still going.

Mike didn’t realize this at the time, but Lizzie already recognized him as the bartender at PC’s local watering hole, Louie’s, during their time at Providence. Celebrity status in her eyes. Rumor has it that Lizzie once told a friend she had a crush on the bartender one night while Mike was slinging Louie’s Light and Malibu Bay breezes.

While sparks were flying that night at Brother Jimmy’s, Mike and Lizzie were not destined to be together for a few more years. Of course, they kept in touch thanks to their shared love of Providence and the fact that Lizzie made sure to put her number into Mike’s Blackberry before he trekked home that fateful night on the LIRR.

Three years later, Mike and Lizzie were at a Providence alumni planning meeting and the timing was right. After not seeing each other in awhile Mike used the meeting to rekindle their friendship and a couple months later he asked Lizzie to meet up for drinks at their favorite bar in NYC, Session House.

Over nachos and beers, Cupid’s arrow finally struck and Lizzie and Mike again talked for hours. This time it clicked — and Mike paid, and so this marked their first official date.

The rest is Friar history.
